Symptoms of Dehydration in Women

Dehydration is a disorder of the Gastro-Intestinal tract where there is loss of body fluids especially, the water and electrolytes as they are lost from the body and it exceeds the amount taken. There are many symptoms of dehydration in women and it can occur she suffers from severe vomiting or diarrhea. In both the cases, there is an imbalance in the fluid and electrolytes in the body. When the body loses large amounts of water and salts, they become dehydrated and severe dehydration can even lead to life threatening situations. So, keep a watch on the signs and symptoms of dehydration in women.

Symptoms of Dehydration in Women

Some of the signs and symptoms of dehydration are:

  • Decreased urine output and the urine color is an indication for dehydration.
  • If the urine color is concentrated and deep yellow in color then you may be dehydrated.
  • Inability to sweat
  • Sluggishness or even fainting
  • Confusion
  • Palpitations
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Swollen and dry mouth
  • Increased thirst

Seek Medical Care

Consult a doctor if you find the above symptoms like:

  • Weakness
  • Confusion
  • Decreased urine output
  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea for more than 2 days
  • Fever more than 2 days above 101 °F
  • Constant or increased vomiting for more than a day

Emergency Care

Take the person for immediate medical care if you observe these symptoms:

  • Absence of urine for the last 12 hours
  • Fainting
  • Abdominal or chest pain
  • Breathing difficulty
  • Seizures
  • Headaches
  • Lethargy
  • Confusion
  • Fever more than 103 °F

Dehydration is diagnosed clinically and a person suffering from dehydration must be taken to a health care provider for the overall assessment of the patient to assess the level of dehydration. Sometimes a physician can conduct certain diagnostic tests to diagnose the level of dehydration.This can help the doctor to treat the person correctly and avoid life threatening conditions.
